8th Grade Boys Basketball

8th Grade Boys basketball

The Holy Angels' cardiac kids did it again, as the 8th grade boys basketball team brought their daly city recreation league season to a close with another come from behind victory, this time over the undefeated daly city Thunder, as they wont it 31 to 28 in the team's final game. After behind down 15 to 8 at the half and not even scoring in the 2nd quarter, Val led the Angels' second half comeback with 9 points followed by Jayson's 8 and Brandon C's 5. Once again the Angels' full court press led by Brandon S., Joshua, Eric and Brian coupled with the dominating defence of Robert and Matthew underneath the boards, enabled the Angels to go out winners in their final game.

VS. Ben Franklin(A)
Loss 50-12 (Jerard-2; Dean-0; Angelo-2; Jeremy-2; Jesus-6)

Tough game.. undersized and undermanned. Only had 5 players the entire game against an athletic and great shooting team. We never gave up. We were exhausted. Great effort by Jesus and Jeremy on handling their ball pressure.

VS. St. Gabriel

Loss23-17 (Jerard-8; Dean-2; Angelo-0: Jeremy-4; Jesus-3)

Again, only had 5 players the entire game. Started off slow on the offensive end then picked up the pace in the second half. Led by key steals and hustle plays by Jesus and Angelo we made a comeback. Big rebounds by Dean and key blocks by Yao (aka Jerard) almost brought us back. Key shots by Jeremy narrowed the lead to 3 pts.

Holy Angels and Yellowjackets were tied at 2nd place with five wins a piece before last Saturday's semi-final game. With teamwork and tight defense, Angels sealed the game and at going to the championship game with about one minute to go. Carlsein's 11 points (with a record of three 3-pointers), 3 steals, and 2 rebounds made the biggest different in the game. Coincidentally, the Yellowjackets was the same team we beat by Carlsein's 3-pointer at the buzzer exactly one month ago. Ben added 4 points, 1 steal, and 1 assist. Jordan 3 points, 2 steals, and 1 rebound. Matthew 1 point and 4 rebounds. John brought in 3 rebounds. Let's all bring a championship trophy to HA as we play this Thursday, March 12th @ 5:30 pm.

3rd Grade Boys Basketball

3rd Grade Boys Basketball

The 3rd grade boys team beat St. Peter SF, 13-2. We had a few fast break chances in the first half. But we only led 3-2. In order to beat the first place team who owned a record of 5-1 before the game, we needed to secure rebounds and score more points. The offense finally woke up in the second half with scores from Justin, Uziah, and Dylan. Jeremy earned extra minutes in the fourth quarter and scored four points coming from an offensive rebound and an assist from Jett. Good defense from Shane, Patrick, and Damon as they put pressure on the St. Peter's guards.
Play of the game occurred in the third quarter when our team had four offensive rebounds and four chances at the basket. Although we didn't score, the hustle plays make out highlight. What's a hustle play? Try your hardest to track down the basketball and get it before the other team gets their hands on it.

The 3rd grade boys team is improving every week. They are beginning to play better together as a team and it showed last weekend at War memorial. Shane and Jeremy led the team in rebounds. Scoring came from Uziah " Monta" Metcalfe, Justin "Magette" Geronimo, and Jeremy " Azabuke" Coughlin.
Awesome defensive pressure from the guards, Jett and Patrick. Damon Dylan played outstanding "D", so we will call them a "pair of brakes" for their stopping ability. The shot of the game came from Jeremy as he hit a 15 footer from the left corner for a "swish". He also dominated the team picture on picture day! Good job boys, see you on Tuesday.
